1. Navigate to the Access Points page
  2. Hover over the speed dial button and then select Create Access Point
    1. For a device that is plugged in and discoverable on the network:
      1. Select “Yes” to the question “Is your device ready to connect?”
      2. Input the MAC address of the reader controller (located on the back and side of the device)
      3. If the device is either not configured properly or is not currently discoverable, the following message will be displayed:

      1. Select “No” to the question “Is your device ready to connect?”
      2. Input the MAC address of the reader controller (located on the back and side of the device)
      3. Choose the device type from the drop-down list (this may auto-populate with the correct type)
    3. Input a name for the access point Ensure it meets our requirements.
      • 1-20 characters (Engage allows up to 25)
      • Letters, numbers, and symbols (#, -, and spaces) only
      • Cannot start or end with spaces
      • No special characters beyond those listed
    4. Input a description (optional)
    5. Select the relevant access point group(s) from the list (optional)
    6. Choose the Area to which this access point belongs (if applicable)
    7. Select either “Configure Later” or “Configure Now

Troubleshooting

I get an error after selecting “Yes — is my device ready to connect?”

This error occurs when you do not have Manage access to the COMMON area. Select “No” instead — an Area field will appear allowing you to assign the device to an area you have Manage access to.

I selected “No” but no Area field is appearing.

The Area field only appears when you have access to at least two areas — Manage access to the area you want to commission into, plus at least VIEW or Manage access to one additional area. Contact your administrator to verify your area permissions.

The Area field appears but commissioning still fails.

You have likely selected an area where you only have VIEW access. Only areas where you have Manage access can be used for commissioning. Select a different area from the dropdown, or contact your administrator to update your permissions.

I selected “Configure Later” and got an error.

Manage access to the target area is required regardless of whether you select Configure Now or Configure Later. Ensure you have Manage access to the area before proceeding.
